Lakes Region

Your summer road trip itinerary for the Lakes region.
Get a taste of lake life this summer on a road trip that explores this region’s natural beauty, outdoor adventure, local favorites, and a few hidden gems too!

Rattlesnake Mountain (Buffalo Road, Rumney) While moderately challenging and steep in some spots, the climb in elevation offers sweeping views of the Baker River Valley. Consider this trail to take in the sunrise or sunset as the overlook faces south.

Polar Caves (705 Rumney Route 25, Rumney) Go spelunking this summer at the Polar Caves Park. These glacially formed caves are a fun adventure for all ages, and what a great way to cool off on a hot summer day.

Museum of the White Mountains (34 Highland Street, Plymouth) This museum is dedicated to preserving and promoting the unique history, cultural treasures, and environmental legacy of the region. Rotating exhibits throughout the year.

Squam River Covered Bridge (River Street, Ashland) Located in Ashland, this bridges Little Squam Lake and the Squam River. Built in 1990, it’s comparatively younger than most of the state’s covered bridges, but it’s just as picturesque and has provided photo inspiration for amateur and professional photographers alike.

Sap House Meadery (6 Folsom Road, Center Ossipee) Craft meads (honey wines) and ciders are the specialty here, all made from locally sourced ingredients. Sip and sample in the cozy, rustic tasting room.  Visitors can learn about making meads in their hive to bottle tours.

Town Docks (289 Daniel Webster Highway, Meredith) Dine al fresco at this lakeside summer hot spot complete with a sandy beach and tiki lounge. Town Docks is a member of the Common Man family, and their menu offers seafood, burgers, specialty sandwiches and salads. Tie-ups are available if you arrive by boat.

Mount Washington Cruises, (211 Lakeside Ave, Laconia) See the sights of the state’s largest lake aboard one of the vessels of the Mount Washington fleet. Take your pick from scenic or sunset cruises, cruises around the islands, or hop aboard the oldest floating Mail Boat for a look at island life as they deliver mail to summer residents.
