PHASE I Interested in taking a walk or bike ride on a scenic historic trail close to the Twin River’s, downtown areas, yet with the feel of wilderness? A 3.1 mile trail parallels the Winnipesaukee River and passes the historic sulphite upside down covered bridge listed in the National Register of Historic Places. You will also view mill ruins and remaining portions of dams that tell the history of the 5 mills that operated on this section of the river in the mid 19th century. You will overlook the Winnipesaukee River where at any time you may see a kayaker navigating what is becoming a popular kayak spot as the river drops 80 feet in elevation in little over 4000 feet as it passes through a spectacular gorge. The trail is open to all non-motorized users from the historic railroad trestle in Franklin to Park Street in Northfield. In that area you can also view the collection of antique rail cars and cabooses. PHASE II The second phase has one section in use extending from 142 East Main St, Tilton off Route 3 and continuing along the railroad right–of- way to Route 140 in the Exit 20 area. This section parallels the Winnipesauke River and has excellent river views.
